Improving Compatibility With PoE (Power over Ethernet)

A single cable used to deliver both power and web connectivity makes installation and maintenance easier. PoE allows devices to be placed anywhere with an Ethernet cable in hard-to reach and far away from a power source location.

The single twisted-pair Ethernet cable can deliver up to 51 watts and 1Gbps to powered devices to receive both data and electrical power.

PoE includes power sourcing equipment (PSE), responsible for supplying power. This is enabled by network switch or an external PoE injector, adding power to an Ethernet cable such as Cat4 cable or lower.

An additional component of PoE is the powered device (PD) which receives power and data.

The PSE and PD communicate via a Cat5 or higher Ethernet cable allowing safe and efficient operation.

PoE provides power to devices such as IP phones, wireless access points, and security cameras.

Mueller Electric provides industrial Ethernet cables and M12, M8, and RJ45 connectors with 4 and 8-pin, 100% copper cable required for standard PoE and Ultra-PoE switches and injectors.
